Test Preparation Guides

Fasting, timing, hydration, and other steps that make a sample usable.

Preparation is what makes a sample usable. Whether you need to fast, time your visit to the morning, or pause a supplement, the instructions for your test exist to keep the result accurate rather than to add friction.

Fasting is the most common requirement. Many glucose and lipid tests ask for eight to twelve hours without food, and water is usually encouraged so you stay hydrated and the draw is easier.

Timing matters for other tests. Some hormones are best measured in the morning, certain panels are scheduled around a specific day of the cycle, and a few tests need a set interval after a possible exposure before they can detect anything.

Supplements, medications, recent illness, and intense exercise can all shift a result. It helps to note what you took and how you felt around your appointment so the report can be read in context.

If you are unsure whether preparation applies, check the test page before you order or ask the collection site when you book. Following the instructions is the easiest way to avoid a repeat visit and a second fee.

These guides are educational and are not medical advice. Follow the directions provided for your test, and ask a qualified healthcare provider if you take medication that may affect your results.
